Managing the Imposter Phenomenon

We’re sorry, we’ve made a mistake…

… you’re not the right person for the job.  If you regularly imagine someone tapping you on the shoulder and telling you this, then you may well be experiencing the Impostor Phenomenon (IP).

Individuals at all levels of organisations experience the IP and one of the most helpful things for us to understand is that it is definitely ‘a thing’.  Identifying it and bringing it out in the open, often through coaching, enables us to do something about it.  The Impostor Phenomenon doesn’t just affect women.  There are, however, a number of reasons why it tends to be more prevalent in women.

So, how can you recognise the IP and its impact on your work and career?  And what can you do about it?

In this session you will:

  • Gain insight into the possible causes of the IP
  • Learn how to spot symptoms of the IP
  • Experiment with some techniques to address specific symptoms of the IP
  • Take away your own action plan for getting control of the IP and other habits that may be holding you back

Who is the masterclass for?
This session will benefit any woman who experiences self-doubt, whether that’s an occasional dip in self-confidence, or frequent full-on ‘Can I really do this?’ soul-searching.  There is no preparation, other than to come with an open mind and ready to participate!

About Julia…
This session will be facilitated by Julia Philpott, who has been an executive coach for 14 years and has particular interest and expertise in working with women in male-dominated sectors, e.g. automotive, banking and finance and technology.  As well as running her own coaching business, Julia is Head of Coaching for Management Futures, a global coaching and leadership development consultancy.

Julia has a Masters Diploma in Executive Coaching and a first class degree in Psychology (OU).  As well as one-to-one coaching, she regularly runs workshops, seminars and small group coaching sessions.

When she’s not doing all that, Julia loves hiking, cooking and eating good food.  She is also a classical musician and plays the oboe for two local orchestras.  She is married to Paul, with two gorgeous teenage children and two very stupid cats.
