Meat Business Women (MBW), for the first time, will be featured as part of the Red Meat Sector Conference official programme and MBW New Zealand are taking the opportunity to host a lunch for our community.
About this Event
This is your chance to be inspired by influential women working in our industry, network, and hear more about MBW offerings. The Red Meat Sector Conference delegates span senior industry leaders through to farmers and if you’re also attending the Conference we will have a friendly MBW presence throughout.

Nicola Johnston, Group Marketing Manager, Silver Fern Farms
Nicola is the Group Marketing Manager for Silver Fern Farms and has held a number of marketing roles with the company over the last 10 years. Nicola has a broad background with experience across all aspects of retail & business-to-business marketing management and is a specialist in fast moving consumer goods sectors (both food and grocery categories. She is skilled in a number of areas including strategic brand and category management, innovation & new product development, market research, and corporate image and brand identity development including packaging design strategy.
Kristin Akehurst, Chief Financial Officer, AFFCO
Kristin joined AFFCO as the Financial Accountant in 2010. In 2012 she was promoted to Finance Manager, then appointed Chief Financial Officer in 2018. Previous roles prior to AFFCO include Finance roles in Agri-business, Food and Trade Banking. Kristin holds a Bachelor of Business from the Waikato Institute of Technology and is a member of Chartered Accountants Australia New Zealand.
Sarah Brown, Independent Director Alliance Group Director, Sarah Brown & Associates, Farmer
Born and raised on a sheep and beef farm in the Manawatu, Sarah has held a number of senior management positions in marketing and consumer insights with high profile companies including Lion Nathan and Colmar Brunton. Sarah has considerable expertise in marketing a broad range of industries internationally including Australian Pork, NZ Pork, Goodman Fielder International, Diageo and Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health. She is an Independent Director at Alliance (Chair of People Committee), Independent Director on The Dairy Goat Co-op Board (Chair of Risk), Director of Sarah Brown & Associates (Marketing Consultancy), was awarded IWFCI/DRAKE International Australian Business Woman of the Year (1995). Mother of two, recently she has also purchased and helps farm 800 hectares (sheep & beef) near Feilding.
