‘Spotlight On’ with Georgia Eastwood
COLES ANALYST LIFTS LID ON WORKING IN THE MEAT INDUSTRY
Coles Commercial and Strategy Analyst Georgia Eastwood has been unveiled as the star of the final episode in a series of candid behind-the-scenes videos about careers in the meat industry.
In this new five-minute video, Georgia takes viewers on a journey through her working week, showing what it takes to work in a fast-paced retail environment. Georgia talks about some of the different projects she gets involved with including product launches, and recruiting new talent and she also highlights the importance and impact of approaching opportunities with a positive attitude.
The video is part of the ‘Spotlight On’ series created by Meat Business Women. It builds on Meat Business Women’s ‘She Looks Like Me’ campaign, which launched in May 2021 to raise awareness of career opportunities in the meat industry and highlight female role models.
Meat Business Women marketing manager Rebecca Fearon says: “We know that lack of visible role models and the variety of careers available in the meat industry is a challenge, particularly in recruiting new talent, which is holding the sector back. There are so many fantastic careers to be had in the meat industry, but people don’t always see them. Georgia is such a great ambassador for younger talent coming through, and we’re delighted that she’s supporting our campaign.”
Georgia says: “Since joining the Coles Meat team, I have gained confidence in my capabilities and importantly have been supported and respected within the team. This campaign is a great way to shine a spotlight on the industry and promote the meat sector as a positive career choice for women.
As Commercial and Strategy Analyst at Coles I’ve been able to develop a range of skills and gain valuable experience across a variety of different workstreams. The meat industry is truly end to end and can provide opportunities beyond the usual perception of butchery or working on farm and my goal in making this video was to provide an insight into the breadth of opportunities the industry has to offer. I hope that by showcasing my role through the ‘Spotlight On’ video I can inspire other women to embrace the challenge and pursue a career in meat.”
Meat Business Women’s ‘She Looks Like Me’ and ‘Spotlight On’ initiatives aim to challenge stereotypes about working in meat and put a human face to the sector at a time when it faces increased public scrutiny and pressure to become more diverse. Last year, a report commissioned by Meat Business Women revealed women make up just 36% of the meat industry’s global workforce and hold just 5% of chief executive roles.
Meat Business Women has created a digital toolkit, including social media visuals, to help meat businesses and individuals upload their own #shelookslikeme content, humanise the jobs they do and more widely promote career opportunities in their sector. The toolkit is free of charge and available here.
